WHY USING BRACHYPODIUM AS A MODEL
Leading Initiatives to Preserve and Restore the Environment

A Small Wild Grass Model
Wild annual ,self-fertile grass species in the Poaceae (grass) family that naturally occurs around the world.
Rapid Growth & Generations
Under controlled conditions, the complete life cycle is typically ~8–12 weeks from germination to seed set.

Easy Laboratory Manipulation
Highly potential for genetic analysis and engineering.
BRACHYPODIUM SEQUENCING
The sequencing of the Brachypodium genome has revealed key genetic pathways , the mechanisms applied and the major candidate gens that control how plants respond climate changes on a molecular level .The first high-quality Brachypodium reference genome was generated by using a combination of the whole genome shotgun sequencing and Sanger sequencing of multiple libraries involve :
- Plasmid .
- Fosmid.
- Bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) libraries.
In this recent years Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) has take a place to resequence multiple Brachypodium accessions .This efforts has expanded the scientists knowledge about:
- The major genes involved in stress resilient.
- The genes applied in how grasses may respond to the future climate changes .
- Drought and heat tolerance .
